What was the inspiration behind Purple Beard? By the Founder

In 2018 events beyond my control transpired and changed my life completely. They shook my inner core and turned my life upside down. After these events, I decided to go travelling across 10 countries for six months. I have been a serial entrepreneur since the age of 22 so taking time out to reflect on what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go was almost a novelty. Everything I had known prior to 2018 was decimated during this time. I suppose it was time for new beginnings.

At this time I did not know what my new venture would look like however through my journey across several countries. I came across ‘Ikigai’ (生き甲斐, pronounced[ikiɡai]), a Japanese concept that means “a reason for being”. The word ikigai is usually used to indicate the source of value in one’s life or the things that make one’s life worthwhile or as the French would say our raison d’être. Providing tech training was an idea that I had toyed with a few times since 2006 however sometimes we have to take a different route to get to where we need to.

During my travels, I decided that I was going to pursue my dreams and founded Purple Beard in 2019, offering tech training to businesses and individuals. On reflection, this was my Ikigai.

To change the balance of power through education in technology while developing and using technology for education.

To provide Tech education that is accessible and affordable globally.

Being from a business management background and having 6 years of experience in personnel management, interaction with people has always been an integral part of my profession. I developed curiosity about information technology and services during the pandemic. I started teaching coding to kids as a hobby and later built it as a profession to enter into the tech world. To improve my skills further, I joined the Cloud Computing Bootcamp with Purple Beard in 2021 which landed me a role as Teaching Assistant.

Teaching Assistant
As seems to be common nowadays, I’m coming to the world of tech at a slightly later age. My background is in languages and snowsports, where I’ve enjoyed training people from all walks of life. I’ve always been interested in tech and creating better ways to solve problems, so I jumped at the chance to improve my skills on a PurpleBeard Data Analysis Course in 2020, which has now led to my first role as a Teaching Assistant in 2021.
